|Payee Provider cannot be used with an assistant surgeon item (51300 or 51303) or an assistant anaesthetist item (17500)|
When does this error appear?
This error will usually appear when attempting to create a patient claim with an assistant or anaesthetist item included.
What does this error mean?
If the assistant or anaesthetist item was performed by another provider, you will not be able to send this through the patient claims channel. Medicare are recognising a difference between the payee provider on the invoice and the servicing provider of the assistant/anaesthetist item. Medicare only allow one provider number for patient claims.
How do I resolve this error?
If you would like to claim on behalf of another assistant/anaesthetist, you will need to do this via the bulk bill claiming channel instead of patient claims. Please note: if you are claiming for yourself as the assistant/anaesthetist, you will still be able to send this via the patient claims channel as your provider number will be the only one present on the claim.
