Gentu supports the creation, printing and recording of pathology requests, creating workflows which allow you to keep track of outstanding requests for each patient.
Setting Up Pathology Laboratories
Before creating pathology requests, you will need to enter the details for the laboratory into Gentu. To do this, navigate to Settings > Pathology Request Labs, then click Create New.
Enter the lab name and contact number. If it is applicable also enter the doctor code provided by the laboratory for each doctor. Once you've entered these details, click Save.
Creating Pathology Requests
To create a pathology request, simply open the patient's record and click Add, then select Request from the menu.
Enter the details of your request, ensuring that you indicate if the request form you use includes labels using the 'Print Labels' checkbox.
Once you have entered these details, save and print the request by pressing Print.
Printing Pathology Requests
Pathology requests generate into a set template for printing. This template has been carefully configured to maintain compatibility with as many pathology request forms as possible, but at the present time is not user editable.
To ensure that the request prints correctly, the following settings should be configured on your printer prior to printing onto a pathology request form.
- Paper should be set to 'A4'
- Scale should be 'Actual Size' or '100%'. Any 'Scale to fit' options should be disabled.
Access to and configuration of these settings will depend on your browser and/or printer.
Because the pathology request uses a fixed template there may be some minor alignment variances between forms. As long as this does not compromise the legibility of the request this is normal.
Reviewing Pathology Requests
Once a pathology request has been created, the record of the request is stored in Results/Letters > Diagnostic Requests.
A notification of the total number of outstanding requests will also appear in the patient summary:
Clicking on the notification will open Diagnostic Requests and filter only requests for the patient, to assist you with quickly locating outstanding requests for a patient.
You can click on any request in Diagnostic Requests to open it and review the details of the original request. Requests which have previously been created can't be changed, but you can click Copy to create a new request with the same details and tests as the previous request.
The exception to this is the Print Labels checkbox, which can always be changed to allow you to correct printing errors.
