There is a wide range of tools available for writing letters and creating letter templates in Gentu. This article aims to explain how to use the tools within Gentu to create professional looking letters and letter templates.
Text Editing Tools
There are a number of text editing functions available in Gentu. To apply these options, you can either select the function before typing to apply the effect while typing, or you highlight your text after it is written, and then apply the effect. Below, you will find a description of what each of the text editing icons do:

Bold. This icon will turn your text bold. | ![]() |

Italic. This icon will turn your text italic. | ![]() |
Underline. This icon will underline your text. | ![]() |

Strikeout. This icon will strikeout your text. | ![]() |

Font Family. Changes the font style. | ![]() |

Font Size. Changes the size of the text. | ![]() |

Colours. Changes the colour of the text. | ![]() |

Paragraph Format. Adds headings or code text. | ![]() |
Paragraph Style. Changes the spacing between your lines of text within paragraphs. |
Align. Changes the way that your text aligns within the page. |

Ordered list. Creates a numbered list. Pressing Return on your keyboard allows you to add to the list.

Unordered list. Creates a list of dot-points. Pressing Return on your keyboard allows you to add to the list.

Increase Indent & Decrease Indent. Allows you to add indentation to your text. |

Insert Function Tools
The following functions can be used to insert different items into your letters:
Insert Image
If you have images stored on your computer, you can add them into a letter using this function:
- Click on the Insert Image icon
- Drag and drop the image from your computer into the box provided, or click on the box to browse to the image, select it, and click on Open to insert the image into the letter:
- The image will then be dropped into the letter:
Insert Table
Allows you to create a table with your chosen number of rows and columns:
- Click on the Insert Table icon
- A small window will open where you can select how many rows and columns you would like:
- Once you click into one of the squares, the table will be inserted into your template:
- If you then click into one of the cells of the table, there will be more editing options available to you:
The information below describes what each of the functions in the table editing options window (above) can do.

Table Header. Adds a row along the top of the table in a darker colour. Used for header text. |

Remove Table. Instantly deletes the table. |

Row. Allows you to add rows above or below the currently selected cell, or delete the row. |

Column. Allows you to add a column to the left or right of the currently selected cell, or delete the column. |
|
Table Style. Adds or removes borders from your table. |
|
Cell. Allows you to merge two highlighted cells together, or split them vertically or horizontally. |

Cell Background. Inserts a background colour into the cell you have highlighted. |
|
Vertical Align. Aligns the text within the cell to the top, middle, or bottom of the cell. |
|
Horizontal Align. Aligns the text within the cell to the left, center, or right, or justifies the alignment. |

Cell Style. Allows you to apply a thicker outline around the cell, or add a coloured highlight to the cell. |
Insert Horizontal Line
Allows you to insert a line into your letter, which will span the width of the container it is placed in:
You can insert a horizontal line by clicking on this icon:
- If you insert a horizontal line into the page, it will begin after the margin on the left, and finish before the margin on the right.
- If you insert a horizontal line into a table, then the line will only span the width of the cell in which it was inserted.
Editing Tools
These options will allow you to the edit the page layout, edit recent content, or pull information from various areas within Gentu into the letter.

Undo. Used to undo your last action. You can click it multiple times to undo multiple actions. |

Redo. Will re-insert the changes you previously deleted by using the Undo function. Can be |

Reference. Allows you to automatically insert information about the patient, addressee, or procedure into the letter. It can also be used to insert the current date, any CC'd doctors, and the sender's name into the letter. |

Set Margins. Can be used to change the margins of the page. |
Display Options
These options allows you to change the way that you view the letter.
Fullscreen. Allows you to enter the letter editor in a fullscreen mode, which can make it easier to type. | |

Fullscreen. This icon will only appear after clicking Fullscreen once before. It is used to close the Fullscreen window, and return to the patient's record. |
